Andy Watt is a talented young mandolin player and guitarist. Originally from Callander in Perthshire, he is currently half way through his studies on the Bmus folk and traditional music degree at Newcastle University.

First picking up a guitar when he was 8 years old, Andy has been hooked ever since, and is becoming a sought after guitarist in the Newcastle music scene and further afield. Buying his first mandolin at the relatively late age of 17, Andy has progressed quickly.

He currently plays mandolin and guitar in various different groups of musicians including up and coming fiddle player Siobhan Anderson, ace accordion player Shona Kipling and double bassist Dan Rogers, BBC radio 2 folk musician of the year 2009 Tom McConville, Edinburgh based ceilidh band Whisky Kiss and Alistair Anderson’s Steel Skies band, revisiting the Northumbrian concertina maestro’s landmark 1982 instrumental suite ‘Steel Skies’, performing at a number of prestigious venues throughout the UK.

Andy has various projects on the horizon exploring some of his recent interests including classical mandolin repertoire, French Canadian fiddle music and jazz. Check out his myspace for more info.
