15 string lute

Postby Barry » Tue May 31, 2005 7:34 am

Would anyone have an idea of the value of a 15 string lute I have ?

Inside the body is a label with the name (Henry H Holmes 1970 Sheffield ). :?:

Hi Barry, only thing I can think of is to ask at the Early Music Shop in Bradford, [ top floor at Woods ] or do a search for dealers.

You can also try contacting the Lute Society www.lutesoc.co.uk

On their site are a list of instruments for sale, which might give you some clues. And it may be the best place to offer the instrument for sale, as people who are looking for a lute will often look there first.

It would be really hard to give an accurate assessment of the value, but you're probably looking in the hundreds of pounds for an instrument of that age that is not by a well known builder.
