Vincenzo Gagliano Mandolin - needs repair

Postby rhys » Sun Nov 22, 2009 10:21 am

Hi all,

I have acquired a V. Gagiano mandolin which is in need of repair.

Essentially, I would like to get a feel for:
1. the true age of the instrument,
2. whether it is at all repairable,
3. the economic viability of repair.

I know very little about mandolins specifically (though I am a guitarist and cellist), so forgive this non-technical description. Photos are available on request.

The mandolin is at least 50 years old, having been in our family for at least that long. The instrument appears to have suffered a neck break near the top of the fretboard, and has been repaired with a screw(!). The back of the instrument is made of strips of wood which have come away from the body of the instrument at the bottom end (i.e. sort of behind the tailpiece).

If you are interested or think you can help, then please get in touch.
