New head (skin) for a banjo mandolin

Postby aero_mandolin » Mon Jan 17, 2011 11:32 pm

Any suggestions where I can get a new head for a 5 1/2" banjo mandolin (I'm hoping it will sound less "sour" with a new head!)

Try using a real vellum, much more mellow than plastic, you should be able to get one from either Hobgoblin, Eagle Music in Huddersfield, The Music Room in Cleckheaton or Halshaw Music in Macclesfield , all do a good mail order service, and all have websites.

Best to ring for the exact details.

Thanks for the lead. I rang AndyBanjo and after a long and enjoyable chat decided to buy one of his new Mandolin Banjos - subliminal salesmanship!

I would recommend Andy too. I was restoring a 1926 Vega tenor banjo and got not only the new head and suitable strings but loads of excellent advice from him; I only paid for the goods but the advice was of course invaluable!
