BOMFEST 2008 - 19th July @ Locke Park, Barnsley

In one day there isn't another place which boasts the line ups that BOMfest has showcased in the last four years and this year will be no exception.

They are currently in an information-gathering phase to obtain pictures, serial numbers, features, and information about vintage Ibanez Mandolins from the late 1970’s and early 1980’s.

Image: Petri HakalasPetri Hakalas has released a new book of traditional Finnish fiddle tunes for mandolins and guitars.

The book consists of transcriptions of all the instrument parts from my latest cd "Trad".

Mainly Finnish fiddle tunes arranged for several different combinations of mandolin family instruments and guitars. Solos on mandolin and guitars, duets and even couple of mandolin quartet arrangements.

London Mandolin Meet up

Image: London Mandolin Meet upForum member Matt Hutchinson is organising a social evening for mandolin players in and around London. It will take place on Wednesday July 9th somewhere in central London (venue to be decided dependent on numbers).

"The idea" says Matt "is to give us mandolin players a chance to meet up for a drink and get to know a few other local players. Hopefully, if we get enough interest, we can continue this on a regular basis and maybe develop things to involve making some music together or organising a workshop or two". If you're interested in coming along then send Matt a PM via the forum and he'll be in touch with the details nearer the time.
